This Privacy Policy explains what information Pool Care+ ("the app," "we," "us") collects, why we collect it, and how you can control it. Pool Care+ is developed by Zac Lippard, an independent developer based in California, USA. You can reach us at support@thepoolcareapp.com.
Information We Collect
To provide the app's core features, we collect:
- Account information: your email address, used to create and secure your account (via Firebase Authentication).
- Pool and water test data: the pools, test results, chemical readings, and maintenance timers you enter, stored in our database (Firebase Firestore) so they sync across your devices and persist if you reinstall the app.
- Photos you choose to submit: test strip photos you scan and photos you share with the AI pool assistant, stored securely (Firebase Cloud Storage) and used to analyze water chemistry or answer your questions.
- Camera access: used only when you actively scan a test strip or attach a photo to a chat message. We do not access your camera in the background.
- Location: used to show local weather conditions relevant to your pool. You can decline location access; the app will simply not show a weather forecast.
- Push notification token: used to deliver maintenance reminders you've scheduled. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
How We Use AI Features
The AI test strip scanner and AI pool assistant send the relevant photo and/or your question, along with your pool's chemical history, to Google's Vertex AI (Gemini) service to generate an analysis or response. This data is processed to give you an answer and is not used by us to train our own models.
Advertising
Free-tier use of Pool Care+ includes ads served through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve and measure ads, subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Paid subscription tiers (Skim and above) remove ads.
How We Protect Your Data
We use Firebase's security infrastructure, including authentication requirements and access rules that restrict your data to your own account. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers necessary to run the app (Google Firebase for storage/authentication/hosting, Google Vertex AI for the AI features described above, Google AdMob for advertising on the free tier), each governed by their own privacy terms.
Your Choices
- You can edit or delete individual pools and test results at any time within the app.
- You can delete your entire account and all associated data. See our Account Deletion page for instructions.
- You can disable camera, location, and notification permissions at any time in your device settings; core logging features will still work.
Children's Privacy
Pool Care+ is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
